Youth Park: truly Penang

When I was in some big cities in China, I was very impressed by their beautiful parks. It was so relaxing just to walk in the parks there. However, going to parks in Penang on weekends does not top the list of many families here.  Most of us will be going to malls as a family activity because of the hot weather. Furthermore, in the recent months, Penang seems to be hazy.

It has been more than several years that I have been to Penang Youth Park or Taman Belia (in Malay). My outstation relatives were here last weekend, so we decided to show them around. We went to Youth Park for a stroll after a satisfying Penang hawker food.

The garden water feature
Wow! I was impressed by the garden called Laman Mempelai. The garden has a beautiful landscape with a water feature. It is a good place for photographs. There is a bridge to walk across the pond in this garden. However, we were all sweating because the air was still and although the sun was not strong.

The park dotted with rainforest trees
The rainforest trees must be very old. The trees here give a lot shade. The children playground was filled with scream and laughter of kids and parents.

There are public children pools here. It was filled with children that day. Hmm...I was wrong to say that families thronged shopping complexes on weekends. It seemed that many were out here enjoying the water and the sun. Public toilets are near the pools, so one can change their clothes there.

Take your kids here for a dip in the pool
The good thing I like about Youth Park is there are many chairs located in the park for you to sit and enjoy some greenery or read a book. Other facilities in the park are outdoor exercising equipment, skating rink and also skateboard rink. Besides, you can also practise archery at the archery field here. If you are keen in playing chess, go to the chess garden and you can find marble table and chairs with the chess board engraved on the tables, If you are thirsty and hungry, there is a small cafe in the park where you can satisfy your thirst and hunger.
Show off your archery skills here
You can enjoy a chess game with your friend here.

Play chess anyone?
Do not miss the Graffiti Park. It is something new here. It is just behind the skateboard rink.

Hmm.. I would consider taking my evening walk here again and hopefully, the next time, the air is cooler than today.
